New Hope recognizes Denver
Chapter with the Community Partner award
ATTLEBORO
- The focus of New Hope's annual meeting at the Highland Country Club
was on those whom the agency says make possible its life-saving and
life-enhancing programs.
Reflecting on such programs, it was noted
that during its fiscal year 2009, New Hope served more than 11,000
individuals, provided shelter to 145 adults and 59 children, answered 3,486
hotline calls, provided legal advocacy in the courts to 1,754 individuals
with its SAFEPLAN Advocates, provided counseling services to 295 adults and
55 children, and provided education and outreach services to 4,968
individuals.
In addition, it was noted that highlighted
accomplishments of fiscal year 2009 included the purchase of a new shelter
for New Hope's central region and the agency's becoming an all-inclusive
agency, welcoming men and their families into the shelters.
In
recognizing those who make it all possible, board members, staff, supporters
and volunteers were recognized for their service with the traditional pins
and plaques, and a new award was added to the list of recognition.
As
a special honor to Shirley Coelho, who was recognized for serving on New
Hope's board for 20 years, and to Cheryl Nimiroski, who was recognized for
serving for 15 years, New Hope presented a newly created award, dubbed the
Coelho-Nimiroski Volunteer of the Year Award.
The first recipient of the Coelho-Nimiroski Volunteer of the Year Award
was New Hope volunteer Licia Rando of Sharon, who was recognized for
volunteering her time in the agency's shelters as well as with its outreach
staff in facilitating its Child Assault Prevention Program in the elementary
schools.
Another special award presented during the meeting was the
Spirit of New Hope Award, given annually to a New Hope staff member who
embodies in their work and their actions the spirit of the agency and its
mission of working to end domestic and sexual violence. MaryBeth Truran, a
member of New Hope's clinical team, was the recipient of this award.
The Community Partner Award was presented to The Verizon Pioneers, for its
dedication and service for the benefit of New Hope and its clients by
partnering with New Hope in sponsoring events, providing volunteers, and
always being willing to give a helping hand.
Special service
acknowledgement was given to:
Al Coleman of Coleman Custom Carpentry.
Adrian Hernon of A. H. Painting.
Charlie Murch of Charlie Murch
Heating and Plumbing Services, all of whom were recognized for going above
and beyond in offering their assistance expertise in making the agency's new
shelter a warm and welcoming environment for the individuals and families
who live there.
