Children's
Sneaker drive to benefit the Woonsocket School Department -
The Denver Chapter of Verizon Pioneers have been a driving
force in our communities for almost 100 years. We see a need
and then find a way to help create a better life for the citizens in over
250 communities we serve in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Our funding
comes from all different sources but mostly from member donations to
support projects like the one outlined in this article. The need we are
highlighting is for the children attending school in Woonsocket. Over 90%
of the children in the school we are targeting are on subsidized meal
plans, meaning their home income is at, or below, poverty level. During
last winter’s coat drive distribution, it became apparent that their feet
were in need as well. Many of the children clearly had on shoes that were
from older siblings or wrapped in duct tape to keep the soles on.
It is our desire to make sure these very
needy children have sneakers this summer. Not ones with holes, or too big
or have to be kept together with duct tape. Our goal is to raise $1000+
from donations you and others like yourself may be able to give. We could
certainly make an impact on the lives of these children as they finish the
school year and head off to enjoy their summer. Please
help us make this project a reality for the children of the Woonsocket
school system. Click here
or on the pair of sneakers to make an online donation over a secure
connection. If you would like to mail a check, please make it out to
TP Denver Chapter and mail to Verizon Pioneers, 234 Washington St.,
Providence, RI 02903-3202 (please put Children's Sneakers in the memo
section of your check).
